Accounting Clerk/Bookkeeper

As part of a successful team, you will provide general bookkeeping and accounting services and support; including but not limited to the areas of: accounts payable, accounts receivable, general ledger reconciliation and reporting, invoice processing, project/account billings, expenses administration and related clerical/filing duties.

    About the role:
  • Process accounts receivable and accounts payable transactions in an organized, accurate and timely manner.
  • Set up and track projects in QuickBooks, or other systems as applicable, and maintain related budgets and backlogs throughout the project lifecycle
  • Support accounting activities related to closing out projects upon completion.
  • Review and track customer accounts, including open jobs for milestone billings, revenue and expenses.
  • Post journal entries and reconcile accounts, prepare trial balance of books, maintain general ledgers and prepare financial statements, using computerized and manual systems.
  • Prepare monthly European VAT recoverable reports and submissions.
  • Support month-end and year-end closing processes.
  • Record, maintain and file financial information and records.
  • Prepare financial reports by collecting, analyzing, and summarizing account information and trends.
  • Compile information and reports for internal and external reviews and audits, as required.
  • Provide support related to the processing of invoices, payments, billings, expenses and payroll, as required.
  • Support the accounting team and Vice President with other duties, as assigned.
  • Comply with all Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP) and any related federal and provincial accounting/reporting legal requirements.
  • Provide clerical and administrative support to management as requested.
    About you / qualifications:
  • Minimum Education: 2 or 3 year College Program in Business Administration or Accounting, or equivalent related experience.
  • Minimum Experience: 2-4 years in a related position, preferably in engineering or construction industry.
    Other skills/abilities:
  • Advanced proficiency in QuickBooks and Microsoft Excel.
  • Experience using applications such as Microsoft Office, SharePoint, Teams, and accounting/payroll software (e.g. ADP).
  • Experience using ERP system.
  • Strong knowledge of accounting principles and guidelines.
  • Strong attention to detail and able to work with confidential data.
  • Quick learner, willing to grow in the role, and help to identify and action opportunities for improvement.
  • Strong oral and written communication skills with professional disposition

Electrical Panel Builder

The Electrical Panel Builder will work under the general supervision of the Electrical Shop Supervisor and will support the activities of the Electrical Shop Department by wiring electrical panels for Safety Critical Electrical Control systems, PLC’s, Hydraulic Power Units and Operator Control Stations.

The work is assigned in terms of objectives, relative priorities and critical areas that interface work with other units. Work is carried out within broad guidelines; however informed guidance is available. Completed work is reviewed for attainment of objectives and adherence to deadlines.

    What you will do:
  • Wire Electrical Panels for Safety Critical Electrical Control Systems, PLC’s, Hydraulic Power Units and Operator Control Stations.
  • Travel occasionally to equipment fabrication vendors for final wiring.
  • Work in a collaborative environment in close association with HEI Engineering staff at the Toronto office to wire panels for integrated custom engineered equipment.
  • Troubleshoot panels and circuits.
  • Use various hand tools safely, as well as electric/battery and pneumatic powered tools.
  • Provide constructive feedback to designers on Electrical Schematic drawings and documentation.
  • Support all customer needs with a matter of urgency for speedy resolution.
  • Conduct all activities in compliance with the ISO system and procedures.
  • Maintain all systems in compliance with company Intellectual Property rules and guidelines.
  • Follow and apply safety guidelines and rules as per the Company polices.
  • Must wear appropriate Personal Protective Equipment as required.
  • Perform occasional overtime work, as required.

    About you / qualifications:
  • Licensed Electrician.

Intermediate/Senior Mechanical Engineer-Mining

The Intermediate Mechanical Engineer – Mining will be based in our Toronto office and work under the general supervision of the Manager, Mechanical Engineering - Mining. The Engineer will be involved in all aspects of the equipment’s life cycle, including; scope definition, bidding, design, manufacture, assembly, installation-commissioning, field service plus long-term operational support. The in-house design includes detailed solid modeling design, hydraulic circuit design, gear design, and FEM stress analysis, as well as the selection of purchased specialty components such as bearings, couplings, and brakes. Our products are custom designed and built from the ground up with Hepburn procuring heavy mill-run plate, forgings and castings followed by rolling, fabrication, machining and inspection.

The work is assigned in terms of objectives, relative priorities and critical areas that interface work with other units. Work is carried out within broad guidelines; however informed guidance is available. Completed work is reviewed for attainment of objectives and adherence to deadlines.

About the day-to-day:

    What you will do:
  • Provide leadership in progressing the detailed design solution including 3D modelling, hydraulic systems, specification for gearboxes, stress analysis, FEA, detailed BOMs & specifications for mechanical equipment build.
  • Support start-up and commissioning of equipment, including sign-off on all safety critical functions.
  • Ensure compliance with all relevant equipment and safety regulations and codes applicable.
  • Provide leadership in detailed review of customer RFQ packages and supports finding a robust technical solution with an itemized BOM and estimated hours to complete the work.
  • Obtain estimates from approved vendors in support of bid submission.
  • Take a leadership role in presenting the proposed solution to the customer in a Technical Bid review.
  • Support training of less experienced engineers.
  • Work in a project environment in close association with electrical design engineers to produce integrated custom-built equipment.
  • Support procurement in review of detailed vendor proposals for compliance to design criteria.
  • Produce equipment documentation including operating and maintenance manuals, safety compliance reports and finalized design documentation.
  • Initiate plans and ideas for cost reduction and/or quality improvement measures.
  • Travel within North America and internationally for approximately 15% of the time.
    About you / qualifications:
  • Bachelor Degree or higher in Mechanical Engineering.
  • Five years or more of experience in Mechanical Engineering.
  • Strong design aptitude.
  • Experience in design and commissioning of Safety Critical Mechanical systems.
  • Experience with CAD and FEA.
  • Excellent organisation skills

Quality Assurance Inspector

    Responsibilities
  • Measure product dimensions, examining functionality of products and comparing final products to see if standards are meet.
  • Look through drawings, blueprints, and specification to understand the design requirements of products.
  • Document inspection findings and complete detailed reports and performance records.
  • Interact with engineering and manufacturing groups to find best resolutions for critical discrepancies as applicable.
    About you / qualifications:
  • Strong technical background in quality control and inspection of large machinery and precision machined parts.
  • Able to read assembly drawings, blueprints, and specifications.
  • Previous work experience in the machining or millwright trades would be a benefit.
  • Experience with dimensional inspections of precision machined steel components.
  • Experience using inspection instruments.
  • Working knowledge of ASTM & CSA Material Standards, ASME Inspection Standards, CWB Welding Standards.
  • Proficient in using Word, Excel, Outlook, MRP systems, Google Drive, CAD systems;
  • Familiar with quality management systems ISO 9001.

Intermediate Electrical Engineer (Control and Automation)

The Intermediate Electrical Engineer (Control and Automation) will be based in our Toronto office with periodic travel for field service work to customer sites within Canada and internationally.  The role will involve the detailed design of control systems for mine hoists and the development of application software for integrated custom-built equipment. The role covers all aspects of the project life-cycle, from before the award of contract, to customer support after delivery of equipment. The field service work involves equipment audits, installation support, commissioning and troubleshooting.

Typically, our engineering employees are involved in all aspects of the equipment life cycle including scope definition, bidding, design, manufacture, assembly, installation-commissioning, field service plus long-term operational support.

Responsibilities:

  • Performs detailed design of control systems, including single line diagrams, electrical schematics, bill of materials and specifications for electrical equipment builds.
  • Develops application software, including PLC program and operator interfaces (HMI).
  • Works in a project environment in close association with electrical and mechanical design engineers to produce integrated custom-built equipment.
  • Participates in equipment start-up and commissioning at customer sites in Canada and worldwide, including sign-off on all safety critical functions, and ensuring compliance with all relevant equipment and safety codes.
  • Provides field service support, including site inspections, service contracts, and emergency shut down situations at customer sites or remotely.
  • Generates and reviews equipment documentation including operating and maintenance manuals, safety compliance reports, electrical schematics, test procedures and specifications.
  • Ensures standards and finalized design documentation are maintained and controlled in compliance with company Intellectual Property rules and guidelines.
  • Works in accordance with Hepburn Engineering Inc. (HEI) Policies, Quality Management System (QMS) standards and procedures.
  • Is required to wear all assigned Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) such as, safety glasses, hard hat, safety boots, high visibility protective clothing, etc.
  • Performs all work in a safe manner and in compliance with Hepburn Engineering Inc. Health and Safety Policies and Procedures.
  • Travel within Canada and to customer sites globally for approximately 20-30% of the year.

Required Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Electrical Engineering.
  • 3-5 years experience in application, design, and commissioning of PLC-based control systems and HMI’s.
  • Preferred 3-5 years experience in application, design, or commissioning of AC Variable Frequency Drives (VFD).
  • Experience working as an electrical or control and automation engineer.
  • Exceptional organizational skills.
  • Excellent communication skills in both verbal and written English.
  • Motivated, able to plan and execute work to project schedules.
  • Familiarity with Safety Integrity Level (SIL) process applications is preferable.

The role includes field service work that involves equipment audits, installation support, commissioning and troubleshooting.  The field service work in this role will include travel to mines and mining projects in Canada, USA, Mexico, Mongolia, Indonesia, Ireland, Peru, Morocco and Australia. After the initial familiarization period of 6 to 12months, the Intermediate/Senior Electrical Engineer (Controls and Automation) could expect to be assigned travel assignments and they may be in the field for approximately 20%  - 30% of the time.

Business Development Manager-Replenishment-at-Sea

The Business Development Manager, Replenishment-at-Sea (RAS) Segment owns execution of the sales strategy for profitable growth of the replenishment-at-sea business.  Working under the Vice President of Business Development, the Business Development Manager will work collaboratively within the organization and pro-actively with Hepburn’s current and future customers to drive the sales process from opportunity identification to purchase order/contract.

Required Qualifications:

  • Mechanical/Electrical Engineer, P Eng, MBA Preferred.
  • 5+ years’ experience of progressive global Business Development experience with RAS/marine Industry mechanical and electrical capital equipment projects. 
  • Demonstrated expert in the sales process from opportunity identification to purchase order/contract delivery including; development of value propositions, proposal generation, stakeholder management, cost estimating, contract negotiation, program management, budgeting and experience with project P&Ls.
  • History of building and managing sales funnels with above average conversion rates.
  • Contracts and negotiation expertise with a track record of negotiating contracts with favorable terms and conditions to support new business and long-term business relationships.
  • Proven analytical, conceptual and problem-solving skills to evaluate business opportunities and leverage knowledge and industry experience to identify and champion customer focused solutions.
  • Relationship management experience with a history of working within the C-suite to develop deep personal relationships to aid in moving opportunities through the sales funnel.
  • Highly proficient with technology.  Strong computer skills including Microsoft Office suite (Excel, Word and PowerPoint), and an understanding of ERP systems. 

Responsibilities and Duties:

  • Lead global sales and marketing for Hepburn’s RAS business segment including; new business, spares, and field service offerings. 
  • Develop and manage a new opportunities sales funnel. 
  • Work collaboratively internally to develop and deliver end-to-end opportunity solutions from identification to product delivery including; value proposition, products, services, contract structure, and pricing.  Identify and build relationships with key opportunity stakeholders to promote Hepburn and influence the outcomes in Hepburn’s favor.
  • Develop deep understanding of competitors’ strengths and weaknesses, product/service portfolios market trends, emerging technologies and market developments. 
  • Participate in trade shows, promote and demonstrate/articulate Hepburn’s value proposition.  
  • Expand the depth and breadth of Hepburn’s product offerings strategic to the company’s success.
  • Develop a close working relationship with the management team to help evolve sales strategy, drive innovation, enhance the product portfolio, and grow customer relationships.
  • Drive the internal opportunity costing processes including; formation of cross functional teams, develop support and hardware costs, and propose opportunity pricing and structure.
  • Prepare timely reports and analytical metrics allowing the monitoring and appraisal of sales programs and efforts.
  • Own the customer relationship.
